About Dr Sue Edminson, ND

Dr. Sue Edmison is a Bastyr University alumni and has practiced Family Naturopathic Medicine since 1990 in the Seattle area. She has a special interest in Women’s health and prescribes bioidentical HRT. For over 20 years she also attended home births as she was dually licensed as a midwife, and her other special interest, Pediatrics, was born from there. Her joyful experiences serving a diversity of families have made her well-versed in treating mother/baby issues and supportive of natural parenting practices. She has seen many challenging common childhood illnesses, such as allergies, eczema, otitis, or frequent viral infections benefit from a Natural medicine approach. She supports a healthy woman’s choice to birth where she feels most comfortable (home, birth center, hospital). She offers thoughtful vaccine counseling and offers exemptions for those who refuse. She offers a no charge “meet and greet” visit for families choosing a new baby provider.

Dr. Edmison takes pride in being accessible and takes her own “after hours” call.

Treatment Modalities

she uses most are: Clinical nutrition, botanical medicines, Homeopathy (acute not constitutional). She normally draws blood from patients herself (employed 9 years as a phlebotomist). She refers most often for Acupuncture, physical medicine modalities (i.e. ultrasound), and massage. She routinely prescribes only a handful of prescription drugs herself and will sometimes refer for this also, to be sure the patient benefits from the knowledge of a more experienced prescriber. Referrals will be based on the expectation of knowledge and results, not just because the healthcare practitioner is a part of an “HMO.”

It is wonderful but sometimes overwhelming Seattle has so many alternatives available in medicine. When you telephone for an appointment she will be happy to tell you if she has experience with your condition and feels she can help you (messages left will be returned promptly); if not, she likely will be able to suggest someone who can.

Office Hours are 10am-4:30pm.

Dr. Edmison does not text, rarely e-mails patients, and does not participate in electronic charting (to protect patient privacy). She does call with lab or diagnostic imaging results to briefly discuss and will then mail a copy, and when the copy is received, will make time to discuss these further as necessary.

She is a Primary Care Doctor (PCP) with several insurance carriers (for all ages) and accepts Medicaid through Molina health plan for children only. First office visits typically last one hour. Please bring any recent lab work. She accepts cash or checks for insurance co-pays/deductibles and for patient-paid no insurance visits/services. She does not accept/bill L and I at this time. Labs and diagnostic imaging (MRI, ultrasound, mammogram, DEXA) will be billed directly to you by the lab/imaging center.

Her office is in Shoreline, East of I5, on the SW corner of Ballinger Way NE and 19th NE (next to Boeing credit union). Free parking is at the front of the building.

Dr. Sue (some of her littlest patients call her Dr. Seuss) did not write all those books, but does enjoy the diversity of Arts in Puget Sound, quilting, and has a commitment to animal welfare.

Why is a Naturopathic physician different than an M.D.?

It is our philosophical principles.

  • The Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)
We trust in the body’s ability to heal itself and try to identify obstacles and interferences to this process.
  • Identify and Treat the Cause (Tolle Causum)
Illness does not occur without cause. Symptoms can be caused by the body’s attempt to heal itself or may be the result of the disease.
  • First Do No Harm (Primum Non Nocere)
We seek to use the most natural, least toxic, and least invasive therapy first.
    (When in doubt mimic nature)
  • Doctor as Teacher (Docere)
The original meaning of doctor is teacher. Dr. Edmison particularly enjoys nurturing parents' confidence in their own judgment to manage routine childhood illness.
  • Treat the Whole Person
Health and wellness result from a physical, emotional, genetic, mental, spiritual, environmental, and social balance. N.D.s recognize the importance of balance in healing.
  • Prevention
This is the primary objective of Naturopathic Medicine!
